Galileo

This was the main evidence in favor of Copernicus's heliocentric theory of planetary motion. Galileo forced to recant his beliefs, and he was imprisoned until the end of his life. The first ship, flying to Jupiter in 1973, was the Pioneer 10 and later it was Pioneer 11, Voyager 1, Voyager 2 and Ulysses.
